George Zimmerman ‘patrolling’ gun shop after recent break-in

George Zimmerman has been spending some of his free time guarding a Florida gun store from potential robbers.

Although he isn’t an official employee, Zimmerman has been “patrolling” Pompano Pat’s — a firearms, ammunition and motorcycle store – ever since the owner apparently asked him to guard the store after a recent break-in, WFTV reports.

According to Click Orlando, one DeLand police officer spotted Zimmerman parked behind the store just after midnight. The officer went to investigate and Zimmerman explained the situation.

“Zimmerman informed me that he was sitting behind the business with the permission for the owner,” the officer wrote in his report.

Zimmerman added he was doing it because the owner, Pat Johnson, was “a friend of mine.”

Johnson, confirmed he wasn’t paying Zimmerman to do the work, and DeLand Police Department Spokesman Sergeant Christ Estes said it appeared Zimmerman was securing the premises on a volunteer basis.

Zimmerman was acquitted of murder for the 2012 shooting death of Trayvon Martin.
