Breaking: Federal court orders Justice Department to release 'Fast and Furious' documents

A U.S. district court ordered the Department of Justice to release documents related to the failed gunrunning ‘Fast and Furious’ scandal, which were withheld by an executive order by President Obama.

U.S. District Court Judge John D. Bates lifted the lengthy 16-month delay to open the records to this scandal thanks to a Freedom of Information Act request by Judicial Watch, a conservative government watchdog group.

“This order forces the Obama DOJ, for the first time, to provide a detailed listing of all documents that it has withheld from Congress and the American people for years about the deadly Fast and Furious gun running scandal,” Judicial Watch said in a statement.

The group submitted the FOIA request in June 2012 and asked for all the documents “the Obama White House was withholding from the House of Representatives under executive privilege claims.”
