Michael Samuel Stokes was armed with a hammer, but quickly realized he was outmatched when the homeowner’s son came out with a gun.

An Indiana home invader discovered that gun beats hammer after barely escaping with his life Wednesday morning.

The Lessburg homeowner woke up to the sound of her window shattering. Her son, who was also in the house, armed himself with a .45-caliber handgun and went outside to investigate before ultimately opening fire on Michael Samuel Stokes, WANE reports.

Stokes, who was armed with a hammer, realized he was outmatched by the gun and retreated to his car. He tried running the son over during his escape but was met by a volley of gunfire.

The son fired multiple times and shot out Stokes’ back window. Neither party was injured during the incident.

Police arrested Stokes a short time later and he was charged with felony burglary. His bail was set at $6,000.
