Libyan militiamen party in secured U.S. Embassy (VIDEO)

Islamist militiamen affiliated with Operation Dawn and the Dawn of Libya have annexed and secured the abandoned U.S. Embassy in Tripoli, the capital city of Libya. Celebrating their success a few decided to throw an impromptu pool party.

The militia is preserving the embassy and guarding it against looters and vandals.

The embassy isn’t complete unscathed as the compound was temporarily in the hands of the Zintan militia, one of the Dawn of Libya’s rivals.

“We entered and put some of our fighters to secure this place and we preserved this place as much as we could,” said Hassan Ali to the Associated Press. He is a commander of Dawn of Libya forces.

Ali added that U.S. diplomats “are most welcome in God’s blessing, and any area that is controlled by Dawn of Libya is totally secure and there are no troubles at all.”

Deborah K. Jones, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, affirmed that the embassy is in good shape via Twitter. “To my knowledge and per recent photos the U.S. Embassy Tripoli chancery and compound is now being safeguarded and has not been ransacked,” she writes.

The State Department evacuated the embassy in July and has stated they will not return until the violence in Libya subsides. The staff have been relocated to Malta.
