Screwdriver-wielding intruder faces off with shotgun-wielding homeowner. Guess who won. (VIDEO)

An intruder was hospitalized after he broke into a Buladean, North Carolina, home and came face to face with the homeowner, who was armed with a shotgun.

Joshua Hicks, 27, forced his way inside the home in the early morning hours of October 11. The homeowner told him several times to leave and even fired two warning shots, but Hicks refused to back down.

But when Hicks came at the homeowner with a large screwdriver, the homeowner shot him.

Hicks fled the scene and showed up at a Tennessee hospital a few hours later with a gunshot wound to the leg. Hicks confessed to the crime and is charged with first-degree burglary.

The homeowner’s daughter said her father is distraught over having to shoot Hicks.

“He’s very upset about it,” said Angila Carroll. “He didn’t want to do anything to harm him but he was trying to keep himself safe and I mean you got to do what you got to do.”
