2 years of exoskeleton development and DARPA shares 6 pictures
When they aren’t dabbling in mind control devices, optically guided bullets or robot dogs, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is overseeing Army researchers testing exoskeletons for combat troops.
DARPA selected the U.S. Army Research Laboratory to evaluate several Warrior Web prototypes at the Soldier Performance and Equipment Advanced Research facility, or SPEAR, at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
The Warrior Web program‘s goal is to create a soft, lightweight undersuit to help reduce injuries and fatigue while improving mission performance.
With the system, DARPA hopes to allow an average to easily lift and carry hundreds of pounds like it was nothing.
These photos show testing of a prototype suit developed over the past two years by Harvard University’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.
