Robbery spree ends when suspect accidentally shoots himself (VIDEO)

Four people are behind bars after a crime spree in Aiken County, South Carolina, came to an abrupt end when one of the suspects accidentally shot himself while running away with nearly $300.

The suspects had already robbed two hotels and a burger joint before making their last stop at another hotel.

“All of a sudden he goes give me all your money,” said Pat Coats, who was working inside the hotel’s lobby when David Dempsey came in with a gun. “So I started pulling out bills and everything.”

Dempsey started to walk away with the cash, but then something unexpected happened.

“On the way out I hear a pop,” Coats said. “The gun had gone off. He screams, then starts limping.”

Deputies were already en route when Dempsey flagged one down to ask for assistance with his wounds.

Authorities quickly determined that Dempsey, along with three accomplices, were likely responsible for the string of robberies.

Dempsey, Bradley Parrish, Breanna Dudley and Autumn Cooper were apprehended and their crime spree ended.

“Karma got him by that gun going off,” said Coats.
