Bradley Cooper: 'American Sniper' inciting a discussion that has nothing to do with vets (AUDIO)

In an interview, which was broadcast Monday on National Public Radio, “Fresh Air” host Terry Gross talked with Bradley Cooper about preparing for the film “American Sniper,” what he and director Clint Eastwood hoped to accomplish with the movie, and how the controversy surrounding it is distracting from that hope.

“We looked at hopefully igniting attention about the lack of care that goes to vets,” Cooper told Gross, citing that 22 veterans commit suicide every single day.

“The fact that it’s inciting a discussion that has nothing to do with vets — and it’s more about the Iraq War and what we did not do to indict those who decide to go to the war — every conversation in those terms is moving farther and farther away from what our soldiers go through,” Cooper said, citing that 22 veterans commit suicide every single day.

Cooper pointed out that because of medical advancements, more soldiers are coming home.

“And we need to take care of them,” he said.
