Too many pedals and that awkward shifty thing made for a difficult getaway.

An attempted carjacking didn’t quite go as planned for the suspect when, after seizing control of the vehicle at gunpoint, he realized he was unable to take off because he didn’t know how to drive a 5-speed.

The victim told authorities he got into his car just after midnight Sunday in Concord, California, when he noticed there was a man with a gun in the passenger’s seat. The gunman instructed the victim to give him all of his money and drive him to a specified place.

When they arrived at the destination, the suspect forced the victim out of the car and attempted to take off with the man’s car, but his attempt quickly failed when the car stalled because he didn’t know how to drive a stick shift.

Eventually, the suspect just gave up and fled from the area, leaving the suspect and his car behind.
