ATF: Felon sentenced in Amtrak gun trafficking conspiracy

A New Jersey man was sentenced to almost six years in prison for his role in trafficking guns from South Carolina to his home state aboard Amtrak trains, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Anthony “Tone” Gilmore, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to sell guns without a license and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced by a federal judge on Friday.

Gilmore conspired with four other people – Shawn Tribbett, Joseph Rutling, Marcus Rutling and Ketelynn Schippnick – to sell 22 handguns, shotguns an AR-style rifle and ballistic vests, of which Gilmore participated in seven transactions, according to court documents.

All but Schippnick were previously convicted of felonies and prohibited from possessing firearms.

The transactions occurred sometime between April 8, 2013 and July 8, 2014, in Camden County, New Jersey and elsewhere and included the sale of an Iberia JCP40 .40-caliber pistol, a Lorcin LT25 .25-caliber pistol, a Raven Arms P25 pistol, a Titan Tiger .38-caliber revolver, a Hi Point C9 9-millimeter pistol, a Savage 67H 12-gauge shotgun, a Marlin Model 60 .22-caliber rifle and a Savage Mark II .22-caliber rifle.

Sometime in March 2013, an informant with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tipped off agents that Tribbett was selling guns, marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs in South New Jersey, according to the filed complaint. The informant then reportedly spent the next year buying more than 20 firearms from the conspirators, including two that had the serial numbers removed and one that was reported stolen.

It was during the first meeting between the informant and the gun traffickers that the ATF learned the firearms were being transported on a weekly basis from South Carolina to New Jersey.
