Ruger announces convertible .45 ACP/.45 Colt Redhawk (VIDEO)

Sturm, Ruger & Co. unveiled the latest in the established line of Redhawk revolvers, a convertible .45 ACP/.45 Colt model. The new Redhawk is based on the previous .45 Colt model that is well-known to hand-loaders and handgun hunters for handling legendarily-hot loads.

The difference between this Redhawk and the existing .45 Colt model is that it’s been cut for moon clips and can run .45 ACP all day long. This makes the new convertible Redhawk that much more flexible at the range and in the field. Loaded with .45 ACP it is also guaranteed to be a soft and fast shooter, making it a competition-friendly option that can double as a serious game getter with any of the famous “Ruger Only” .45 Colt loads.

Like the original .45 Colt Redhawk the convertible is built to last on a heavy stainless steel frame with Ruger’s standard satin polish. It uses the same 4.2-inch barrel and is a lightweight, relatively speaking, weighing in at 44 ounces.

Part of what makes the convertible lighter is a new grip shape with a deep hardwood grip with laser-engraved checkering and a round-butt profile. It comes with Ruger’s standard fully-adjustable sights and ships with three full moon clips.

Ruger has given the convertible model the same suggested retail price as the standard .45 Colt Redhawk, $1,029. Those usually sell in stores for around $800 or less. Ruger has already listed three-packs of moon clips on their web store at $14.

Whether it’s handloading, handgun hunting or just knocking over bowling pins at the range with friends, the Ruger Redhawk .45 ACP/.45 Colt is a versatile variant of a much-loved revolver.
