Man arrested in Boston after boarding bus with fake bullets, causing 'panic'

Transit authorities arrested a 26-year-old commuter wearing a belt made from replica machine gun cartridges last week in Massachusetts.
Transit Police officers working for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority took Kevin Young of Watertown into custody on July 10 after they received a call that a man had boarded a bus apparently armed with live ammo.
Although officials later determined the 69 rounds were fake, they had the appearance of belted machine gun ammunition and Boston Police charged Young with unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carried dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct.
“Officers learned that the driver had pulled the bus over as passengers began calling 911 when a male suspect boarded the bus with what appeared to be military grade ammunition strapped around his waist,” reads a statement from BPD. “The driver stated that the passengers were in a panic, fearing that the suspect was about to pull out a weapon.”
Young appeared in Brighton District Court this week, sans white sunglasses and bullet belt, and the judge dismissed the charges against him as the faux ammo, “could not and weren’t intended to be fired,” a spokesman at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said.
