WW2 German Luger is a family heirloom (VIDEO)

I recently attended the Green Mountain Boys Machine Gun Shoot in Eden, Vermont. It’s one of my favorite gun shoots because it’s relatively small and intimate and I’ve gotten to know a number of the people that attend.

This year I asked a few people to tell me a little bit about their guns. This is John Sokol’s 1915 model 9mm Luger.

John Sokol’s uncle John Ryall was fighting in northern Germany in 1945 when the man next to him was shot. John returned fire with his M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle and killed the German. This 9mm Luger was recovered from the body. It was imported to America via duffel bag with all of the proper documentation.

Sokol inherited the gun shortly before his uncle passed. It has become a family heirloom because it’s exactly 100 years old and his two young children love to shoot it.

If his uncle hadn’t taken part in the war, the war still would have come out in our favor but this is a piece of history and is something his children can touch and fire, so to Sokol, this Luger is priceless.
