Burglar busted after losing car keys, cell phone, returning to scene

Caleb Shay Funke

A woman returned to her home in Twin Falls, Idaho, earlier this month to find that it had been broken into, ransacked and burglarized, but a couple of items left behind by the suspect helped authorities to nab the man responsible.

The homeowner found an unfamiliar cell phone and car keys lying on her bed, as well as a strange car parked on the back side of her property Sept. 12. Some time later – and after the homeowner already called the police – 22-year-old Caleb Shay Funke was dropped off near the vehicle by a friend.

Although authorities already determined the car keys found on the woman’s bed went to the vehicle parked outside, Funke initially said he let a friend borrow the car and he had locked the keys inside the car. However, he eventually admitted to his involvement in the burglary as well as at least one other burglary in the same day. Funke was subsequently arrested and is due in court later this month.
