A look at Cincinnati's NIBIN system (VIDEO)

Federal agents test fire guns that had been stored in the property room. Although the guns were not yet linked to crimes, that could change.

The shell casings from the test firing will go into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network, or NIBIN, a database ran by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Just like a fingerprint, the markings left on casings were individual with each firearm. NIBIN takes a picture, stores it and compares it.
