Man who thought gun was unloaded shoots, kills himself while driving

A 25-year-old man is dead after he accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun he thought was unloaded Saturday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police told the Trib that Chad Harrison, of Bolingbrook, Illinois, was pulled out a .45-caliber handgun and began playing with it while he was driving through Aurora, located about 40 miles west of Chicago.

He allegedly told his two passengers that the gun was unloaded, proceeded to point it at his head and pulled the trigger. One of the passengers then took control of the car, parked it and they called police.

Harrison was pronounced dead at the hospital.
