6-year-old suspended over imaginary bow and arrow (VIDEO)

A 6-year-old boy earned a three-day suspension after he pretended to be playing with a bow and arrow at recess, and his parents are questioning whether the Cincinnati Catholic school’s “zero tolerance” policy is going a little too far.

“I don’t see anything wrong with the way he was playing,” said Matthew Miele, the boy’s father.

Meile said his son was at recess, playing with his friends, pretending to have a bow and arrow when a teacher noticed him. She asked what he was doing and he – believing he wasn’t doing anything wrong – gladly explained and even demonstrated, complete with sound effects.

The teacher then informed the principal of the boy’s “threatening gestures” and he was called to the office. Later that day, he was given his punishment – three days of suspension.

“The punishment is so severe in this it’s hard as a parent to try to make this a teachable moment for our kid so we can move forward in a healthy manner,” said Miele, who added that his son was simply playing with his friends and had in no way whatsoever any malicious intent.

The couple is now debating on whether or not their child will attend Our Lady of Lourdes next year.
