Farting, dildo counter-protest planned for gun group’s mock shooting

A demonstration is being organized to counter a gun group’s mock shooting by the Austin campus of the University of Texas on Saturday.

“Pro-gun extremists have announced that they will be doing a mock mass shooting on the UT Austin campus this Saturday afternoon,” reads the Facebook announcement for “Say No to Gun Violence at UT.”

“Let’s respond to their fear with something funny: a mass farting (and dildo waving),” the announcement added.

Event organizers are encouraging protestors to bring one of several items: a farting device, like the “Fart Blaster” toy from the movie Minions, a farting app they can download on their phone, a whoopee cushion, or just eat a bunch of tacos and bring the real thing.

Organizers are also encouraging the use of dildos as a tool of protest. “You know where to get them, you filthy bastard,” the notice reads.

Organizers plan to follow participants of the simulated mass shooting tomorrow, who will be across from the UT campus. The simulation will involve blood, gunshot noises blasted through bullhorns and role-players to serve as victims, active shooters and rescuers armed with cardboard guns.

The gun rights groups, Come and Take It Texas and DontComply.com, mean to put pressure on politicians and anti-gun groups to help ease and eliminate gun free zones, a subject of fierce debate on UT’s campus.

“We’ll find these wackos and follow them around, farting and waving dildos at them. Also feel free to bring signs, other noisemakers, wear costumes, or otherwise prepare to really put a smile on people’s faces,” the “Say No” announcement reads.

Texas state lawmakers recently passed a measure to permit concealed carry holders to carry a firearm on public school campuses, but university presidents can still designate certain areas as gun free. The law is to take effect in August 2016.

However, the fake shooting is also catching flak from other pro-gun groups, who may have similar goals but are criticizing the event organizers for lacking tact.

Open Carry Texas slammed the fake mass shooting on Wednesday saying, “These kinds of attention seeking escapades do nothing to bridge the gap between gun owners and the uneducated masses trying to understand why we fight so hard to protect these fundamental rights.”

The event, Life and Liberty Walk To End Gun Free Zones, is scheduled for Saturday at noon with the theatrical performance starting at 2:30 p.m.
