Detective wanted for soliciting minor shoots self while officers execute warrant (VIDEO)

A detective with the Northern Virginia-D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is dead after he shot himself at his home in Gainesville, Virginia, as officers attempted to execute warrants for sexual crimes against minors.

David Edward Abbott Jr., 39, was wanted on two counts of indecent liberties by a custodian and two counts of use of a communications device to solicit sexual offenses.

Abbott was accused of conducting inappropriate communications of a sexual nature with a 13-year-old boy via phone, text and social media, which began back in 2013 when the boy was just 11-years-old. The same type offenses also were said to have occurred with a 13-year-old boy in 2008.

Abbott met both victims while coaching a local youth hockey league.

As authorities attempted to execute the warrants, Abbott refused to surrender and eventually shot himself with a handgun. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
