Popping the bubbly from 65 feet with a 1873 Winchester

Members of the Hungarian muzzleloading club decided to test out their Uberti-repro 1873 Winchester lever gun to see if they could pop the cork off their New Years champagne.

Their smokepole of choice is a breechloader. They used hand loaded .44-40 cartridge with a 240-grain lead bullet over a black powder load which seems able to do the job of nipping the cork off without otherwise damaging the potent potable inside…other than allowing half of it to pour out into the berm.

Anyway, Happy New Year!
