For those who may be wondering if there’s still hope for humanity, a heartwarming video has made its way around social media that just might answer that question. The video, taken from a cell phone, shows a guy giving a homeless man the shirt off of his back and a cap to help keep him warm on a cold January day in New York.

After the video, which has been viewed nearly 14 million times, received so much attention, a local Fox affiliate decided to track the man down and ask about the good deed.

Joey Resto, 23, explained to the news station that he walked on the train and the homeless guy was just sitting there shirtless.

“Everyone on there had separated themselves from him,” Resto recalled. “He looked like he had gotten beaten up. He had patches of hair missing. He had no shirt on.”

Resto, a father of two, said it was freezing outside.

“It was crazy that everyone was just looking and not doing anything,” he said.

So Resto took off his shirt.

“It was the least I could do. I didn’t know what was going to be his reaction,” Resto said. “He looked like he had a mental disability. He couldn’t physically put it on. I had to put it on him like a child.”

Resto helped the guy put on the T-shirt and placed a cap on his head. Moments later, the man could be seen wiping tears from his face.

Resto offered to take the man to get him a hot meal, but he said the man fell asleep before they reached the destination. So Resto let him sleep and instead called 311 to notify authorities about the man.

“I hope he got some help,” said Resto.
