‘Loved setting your house on fire’ text lands arsonist in hot water

A 34-year-old homeless man is facing arson charges after he was arrested last week for intentionally setting a man’s San Antonio home on fire back in November.
The homeowner told authorities he met Gerald Kujawa downtown and invited him to stay at his house for the night after learning the man was homeless. The following morning, the homeowner left for work around 5 a.m., but Kujawa remained at the home. Authorities say around noon, after Kujawa already left, a fire was discovered at the house.
Several days after the fire, the homeowner began to receive disturbing text messages from Kujawa, despite the fact he was camped out near the man’s home where the homeowner continued to bring him food and water.
“I set your house on fire, and I enjoyed and loved setting your house on fire,” read one message.
“I hope you die, I burned your house down and I enjoyed doing it,” another scary message said.
Another text indicated the homeowner was lucky he wasn’t killed while he slept, and a witness told investigators Kujawa admitted to starting a fire on the bed with a cigarette, but said, “If I had some gasoline I would have set the whole house on fire.”
Currently, Kujawa remains behind bars with a $50,000 bail.
