Arkansas reported unusually high number of missing guns in 2015

Twenty-fifteen’s report on lost or stolen guns shows Arkansas leading in the category of missing guns thanks to an audit of the state’s gun stores, an exponential increase from the year before and when compared to other states.

The report issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shows Arkansas reporting 2,951 lost or stolen guns, up from 317 from the year before.

In a state with only 2,000 gun dealers, that makes an abnormally high total, The Trace reported.

An ATF spokesmen told the website that 98 percent of the missing Arkansas guns stemmed from a single unnamed dealer. Field agents discovered the guns missing from the store’s inventory during an inspection. But they could not comment on what prompted the ATF’s visit.
