Social media for gun lovers? There’s an app for that

If you’re looking for a social media site that has a little more caliber than Facebook and Twitter, Jonathan Rockett, CEO and founder of The Shooting Club, has just the thing.

Rockett said the idea came to him during a conversation with his dad and uncle. While talk initially centered around his uncle’s new gun, it eventually evolved into “who’s the better shooter?”

“And he said to me, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if there was a website where you could upload pictures of your targets and see who’s the better shot?’” Rockett recalled. “I thought that’s actually a genius idea.”

And there you have it.

Rockett’s social shooting app is due to launch next month and offers an online place to find friends, compete, and shoot guns. Of course, you don’t actually shoot guns through the app, but you can easily share your range-time experiences with fellow gun lovers. Not only that, The Shooting Club also offers online “games” for gun lovers, a place where you can earn badges and other achievements for staying on target.

Additionally, the app will offer useful information, such as where to find the closest gun range, and by using the app, you have a record of your targets and therefore a record of your progress.
