Body cavity search turns up 1,400 bags of heroin
A 41-year-old man from New York City is facing multiple drug charges after authorities in Vermont discovered he was hiding 1,428 bags of heroin inside of his body.
Fernando Estrella was stopped Tuesday in St. Albans City for multiple motor vehicle violations, but a drug-detecting K-9 reacted during the stop. A search of Estrella’s vehicle came up clean, but he was detained while authorities secured a warrant for a body cavity search.
The search, which was conducted at a local hospital, revealed the stash of heroin and Estrella, who had previous drug charges, was arrested for felony heroin possession, heroin trafficking, heroin importation and violation of conditions of release.
