Waitress pays for officers’ meals after they bury a brother in blue (VIDEO)

When a group of officers in Polaris, Ohio, came into a Red Robin restaurant after the funeral of Columbus Police Officer Steven Smith, who died after being shot in the line of duty over the weekend, their waitress wanted to do something nice and her random act of kindness touched the hearts of them all.

When it came time to pay the tab, Jessica Dunbar informed the officers that the bill was on her. The working mom, whose father is a retired law enforcement officer, paid the $123 tab without hesitation.

“I just wanted to do something nice,” Dunbar she later told reporters after the story made headlines. “You can’t put a dollar amount on making somebody happy.”

Wellington Police Lt. Jeff Shelton, who was at the restaurant that day, said, “It really touched all of our hearts.”

Wellington said none of the officers were expecting to be treated any differently that day, but Dunbar’s kind gesture made their day.

Dunbar said Smith’s death weighed heavy on her heart and she wanted to do her part to pay respects and show her support for law enforcement who serve and protect each day.

“People look up to them,” Dunbar said of law enforcement. “To have them shake my hand and say ‘thank you’ to me, that was incredible.”
