Gunbroker, Smithsonian issue statements on Zimmerman gun auction
George Zimmerman listed his Kel Tec 9mm used in the Trayvon Martin shooting for sale on Gunbroker citing the Smithsonian had even expressed interest in owning it.

The listing for Zim’s preowned PF9, set to start at 11 a.m. Thursday with a entry level price point of $5,000 was pulled from the auction house just minutes after it began, receiving some 185,000 views.
It was not immediately known if Zimmerman or the site had made the decision, with editorials and opinion pieces on the subject flying nationwide, to pull the plug.
Then at 2:40 p.m., Gunbroker made it clear they made the call.
Their statement:
Late last night, George Zimmerman created a listing on our web site for the gun from the Trayvon Martin case four years ago. Mr. Zimmerman alerted news organizations that began reporting on the listing first thing this morning.
Listings on the GunBroker.com web site are user-generated, exactly like social media posts. Mr. Zimmerman never contacted anyone at GunBroker.com prior to or after the listing was created and no one at GunBroker.com has any relationship with Zimmerman. Our site rules state that we reserve the right to reject listings at our sole discretion, and have done so with the Zimmerman listing.
We want no part in the listing on our web site or in any of the publicity it is receiving.

As for the gun being desired for inclusion in the expansive collection of the Smithsonian Museum system, they issued a statement of their own via social media early Thursday:
Zimmerman has attempted to relist the gun for sale on another auction site, though the page at United Gun Group listing the Kel Tec had crashed as of Thursday afternoon.
As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, the new vendor is fine with the listing, saying as “long as Mr. Zimmerman (or any other UGG member) is obeying the letter of the law, his personal firearm sale will be permitted on our network.”
