A recent press release shows GunTV programming  is now broadcasting to well over 20 million homes in the U.S.

Launched in April, GunTV gives viewers a means to purchase guns and gear without leaving home. Products are not just limited to firearms, as programming gives fair play to gun gear. Safes, hearing and eye protection, bags and gun sights can all be purchased via GunTV.

Gear and accessories are shipped directly to viewers, but firearms must go through a licensed dealer and are still subject to federal and state laws. There are currently 6,000 participating GunTV dealers in the U.S.

Views who choose to nab a gun from TV programming complete their purchase via a call into a toll-free number or visit to the GunTV website. Buyers are required to put down a 20 percent initial deposit at the time of order. Once complete, the firearm is shipped to the nearest dealer. Once all background checks and required paperwork have cleared, buyers pay the remaining balance to the dealer and the firearm has a new home.

Since the announcement and launch of the program, backlash from anti-gunners has been fierce. Many gun safety advocates criticized the show for making firearms even more accessible to the public.

“When you look at the number of gun deaths in this country every day, the idea that somebody’s ‘brilliant marketing scheme’ is to get more guns into the hands of more people is just a little bit outrageous,” Laura Cutilletta, senior staff attorney of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, told The Desert Sun last year.

Though GunTV offers firearms in a friendly, home shopping format, safety is far from ignored. Show hosts frequently discuss safe firearm handling techniques as they display and detail each gun. Basic gun safety rules are also displayed prominently on the screen intermittently throughout broadcast.

GunTV co-founder Valerie Castle told TheBlaze that safety is a top concern. “We understand that the more informed we are as consumers, the better purchasing decisions we make. At GunTV, safety is our No. 1 priority,” she said.

Despite pushback from anti-gun advocates, GunTV seems to be holding its own as the only home shopping network for guns and gear.
