Columbian authorities confiscate over 8 tons of cocaine

Columbian officials announced a massive cocaine bust Sunday.

The confiscation of some 8.8 tons of blow was “the biggest seizure of drugs in history,” according to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

The drugs, which have an estimated value of $240 million, were discovered in an underground hideout below a banana plantation. Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas indicated that the cocaine belonged to the gang Clan Usuga, the leader of whom the United States had offered up a $5 million reward for his capture.

Three people were also arrested in connection with the bust, though none of them were the Clan Usuga leader.
