An aluminum alloy ventilated barrel sleeve sets Sturm, Ruger’s latest takedown apart from the venerable 10/22 rimfire rifle line from which it descended.

Unveiled at the 145th National Rifle Association’s Annual Meeting and Exhibits in Louisville, Kentucky this week, the 10/22 Takedown Lite has a new lighter weight 16.12-inch barrel and features Ruger’s Modular Stock system that provides fast adjustment to fit an array of shooters. As the name implies, the entire gun breaks down without tools into two components for storage and easy carry, the longest of which is just 20.25-inches.

The barrel comes with a standard 1.5-28TPI threaded muzzle with a threat protector for muzzy accessories or your favorite can.

The centerpiece of new offering is the cold hammer-forged alloy steel barrel surrounded by a 6061-T6 aluminum alloy sleeve, which is ventilated to reduce weight– producing a very handy 4.7-pound offering.

Length overall with a Ruger Silent-SR mounted is still under 40 inches.

With a nod to those who want a gun to turn heads on the range or catch the eye if dropped in brush, Ruger is offering the 10/22 Takedown Lite in optional red, green or blue schemes if black is too sedate.

MSRP is $659 across all variants, which will likely be closer to the $599 mark if you shop around.
