Fugitive, homeowner killed during home invasion shootout (VIDEO)

A wanted bank robber was killed in a shootout last week after he broke into a Cottonwood, Tennessee, home, but authorities say the armed homeowner was also killed.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office received a call after a neighbor went to the home of Marty Dale Hall, 62, to play cards and found his body lying next to the door. When officers arrived on the scene they found that someone had broken in through the back door of Hall’s home.

Evidence gathered at the scene suggests there was a shootout between Hall and the intruder, with more than a dozen rounds exchanged. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

One neighbor told reporters that she heard what she now knows was gunfire around 1:00 p.m. She said she believed at the time it was fireworks, which are commonly heard in the area around this time of year.

The intruder was later identified as Eddy Roger Conner, 58, a man who had been on the run from law enforcement following a bank robbery in Kentucky. Conner had a lengthy criminal history and was featured on a 2012 episode of America’s Most Wanted. His rap sheet spanned throughout Florida, Michigan, Georgia, Wyoming, Kentucky and Tennessee and included assault, robbery, firearms possession and escape.

Neighbors said Hall, who had several legally owned firearms, worked as a truck driver and had likely returned home from a haul shortly before the break-in.
