Guards at Rikers Island will be training with the Kel-Tec Shotgun, The New York Post reported.

The New York City Department of Corrections contracted Virginia-based U.S. Corrections Special Operations Group, a corrections contract company, to provide training to the jail’s Emergency Services Unit.

The training program put together by U.S. C-SOG includes mastering the use of shooting non-lethal ammo withe KSG, which the grouped named as its official weapons platform.

Currently, the 198-officer unit in the New York department normally defends city jails with batons, pepper spray and shields with a Taser-like electric current.

The three-year U.S. C-SOG contract is valued at $1.2 million.
