Donald Trump Purple Heart

In response to Donald Trump remarking that he’s always wanted a Purple Heart, Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient Cameron Kerr is helping the presidential hopeful’s dreams come true.

Last week, Kerr created a Go Fund Me page titled “Help Trump Get a Purple Heart.” On the page, Kerr recalled how Trump handed a Purple Heart by a fellow vet at a Virginia rally last week. During the rally, Trump remarked that he always wanted a Purple Heart, but “this was much easier,” referring to the wounded vet handing him one instead of him actually earning it.

Of course, Purple Heart recipients are free to give their medals away to whomever they may choose, but the gesture certainly didn’t sit well with some folks, including Kerr.

“As a Purple Heart recipient who earned one the old-fashioned way by returning from Afghanistan one leg lighter, I fully endorse his desire to earn one and would happily oblige his interest in doing so, by being one of the first to chip in to fly him to the conflict zone of his choosing. After all, you’re never too old to follow your dreams,” Kerr wrote on the fundraising page.

In just five days, more than $54,000 of the $60,000 goal has been raised.

Kerr went on to ensure that the title was mere satire and none of the funds would actually go to Trump or any other political figure for that matter.

“All money actually raised will be distributed to vetted groups working directly with Syrian refugees as well as refugees of similar conflict zones,” Kerr said, “the decent fellow humans who were unfortunate enough to be in one of these regions when everything around them collapsed, and whom Trump has broadly categorized as likely terrorists unworthy of resettlement.”
