Mom accused of chauffeuring kids as they targeted homeless man with BB gun

A Florida mom is facing charges after police say she drove her SUV past a Volusia County carwash so her three sons could shoot their BB guns at a homeless man.

The incident occurred just after 1 a.m. Sunday. Amina El-Zayat, 36, said her family owns the car wash and they were fed up with “bums” digging through the trash. The victim, Travis Martin, said he always waits until nighttime to check out the dumpsters, noting that it’s embarrassing.

Martin said the SUV drove by while the kids shot at him and yelled obscenities. The SUV then returned about 20 minutes later for round two. Martin, who was not injured, said he didn’t want to press charges, but he wanted authorities to be aware of what happened.

When police responded to the scene, Martin pointed them to the location of the SUV, which was parked outside of a Hungry Howie’s. El-Zayat and her three sons were apprehended and officers found the BB guns inside the SUV.

El-Zayat now faces charges for aggravated battery, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child neglect. It’s unknown if her sons, who are all minors, will face charges as well.
