Disgruntled lawyer opened fire on Houston commuters

Houston police confirmed details about a shooting spree at a shopping center Monday morning that left at least nine people injured and the gunman dead.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, who left the city Sunday for an event in Cuba, told local media that the alleged shooter had been identified as Nathan DeSai.

The Houston Police Department confirmed that the shooter was a lawyer who presumably had issues with his law firm, but did not identify him by name. He was killed during an exchange of gunfire with police.

The gunman had opened fire on morning commuters driving by an upscale shopping center in the southwest side of the city shortly before 7 a.m. He reportedly fired between 20 to 30 shots.

At a press conference held after officers contained the scene, authorities said six of the victims were taken to hospitals and the other three were treated at the scene, Reuters reported. One victim is in serious condition and another is in serious condition.

Authorities said a bomb squad is securing the gunman’s car, a black Porsche, which had numerous weapons. They will also search his house.

Houston police along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation are still investigating the incident.
