Teen jumps fence to save girl with military dad from heartbreaking moment (VIDEO)

When a teen at a high school football game in San Antonio last weekend noticed a cheerleader upset because her military dad couldn’t be there with her, the teen came to her rescue, literally jumping two fences to give her a boost.

It was parent night at Central Catholic High School, but when all of the fathers of the cheer team met with their daughters and lifted them upon their shoulders, 9-year-old Addie Rodriguez stood alone and started to cry.

It as then that high school senior Matthew Garcia noticed Addie, immediately ran to her and acted as an emergency fill-in and lifted little Addie up on his shoulders.

“It was really heartbreaking to see your daughter standing out there being the only one without their father, knowing why he’s away,” said Addie’s mother, Alexis Perry-Rodriguez. “It’s not just an absentee parent. He’s serving our country.”

Addie’s father is a senior airman who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and is currently in training at Travis Air Force Base in California some 1,700 miles away. Alexis said that while her daughter is very strong and handles her dad being way very well, that night on the football field was just more than she could take.

Garcia later told reporters he ran to Addie, kneeled down beside her and asked if she was okay, then did what he could to make her dad’s absence a little easier.

“And then I realized what he was doing,” Alexis said, “and my heart just melted. It was just the most beautiful thing.”

And as for Addie?

“I just felt like somebody saved my life,” she said, “I thought that’s so nice.”
