A look at the 'Native Guard' (VIDEO)

Warren Queton is a member of the Kiowa Nation. He belongs to the warrior society Black Leggings and the Native American Church. He is also a Captain in the Oklahoma National Guard and full-time federal technician for the Guard’s 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team which has deployed several times to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The unit’s sleeve insignia is the Thunderbird, an important and respected Native American symbol that was carried by the 45th Infantry Division in WWII and Korea.

“Per capita, American Indians serve the most amongst all other races and ethnicities in the United States,” says Capt. Queton, pointing out that his relatives preceded his own service in the 45th in the above video made by the U.S. Army to honor Native American Heritage Month.
