A 15-year-old boy who tried to rob a man in Indianapolis early Sunday morning was shot and killed by the man he was trying to rob.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the attempted robbery unfolded around 7:30 a.m. Officials say preliminary evidence indicates the robbery victim was “lured to the location of the shooting using a phone app.” The teen was said to have acted with about half a dozen other youths who were staying at the home overnight.
When the victim arrived at the home after responding to the app, he was approached by the suspect, who pulled a gun, threatened him and, along with his accomplices, began searching the victim for valuables. But the victim pulled out his own gun and shot the teen.
The victim then left the scene and immediately called the police.
When officers arrived, they found the teen, later identified as Roshun Johnson, outside of the home unresponsive. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.
The man who shot Johnson was questioned and released.
The investigation is ongoing and once completed, the case will be forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether any charges are warranted.
