Authorities released body cam footage Wednesday showing an encounter with a suspect in Lavonia, Georgia, Monday night that left two officers shot.

Lavonia police Captain Michael Schulman and Jeffrey Martin pulled over Khari Gordon, 22, around 8 p.m. on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle. As the officers approached Gordon, he was repeatedly told to take his hands out of his pockets, but refused.

Moments later, shots rang out and Schulman dropped to the ground as he wailed out in pain. Blood can be seen pooled on the ground. Gordon then turned the gun on Martin, shooting him in the hand, before he fled on foot.

Martin can be seen assisting Schulman to his patrol car while medical personnel is called to the scene.

Schulman suffered a punctured lung and, as of Wednesday, remained in intensive care. Martin must undergo surgery to remove the bullet from his hand.

Gordon was apprehended in a wooded area several hours after the shooting and is being held without bond. He faces numerous charges, including two counts of felony intent to murder, two counts of aggravated assault on an officer and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Schulman and Martin are two of six law enforcement officers that have been shot in Georgia in recent weeks, four of which were all shot Monday, one fatally.

“This has to end,” said Lavonia Police Chief Bruce Carlisle. “I don’t know what the answer is but it has to end somewhere.”
