Coast Guard reels in nearly 27 tons of cocaine (VIDEO)

A recent east coast deployment by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy brought in a massive 26.5 tons of cocaine.

The drugs, worth an estimated $715 million, were seized from 27 separate interdictions and offloaded Thursday in Miami.

Vice Adm. Karl Schultz, commander, U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area, said the massive haul demonstrates not only the dangers presented by cartels and other criminal groups but the commitment of the Coast Guard to interdict such operations.

Commodore Craig Baines, commander of the Royal Canadian Naval Atlantic Fleet, called the haul was a “tangible example of our collective efforts to keep narcotics off our streets while at the same time promoting regional security.”
