Suicidal man with gun talked down outside of PA police department

A suicidal man who fired several shots outside of a Pennsylvania police station over the weekend was taken into custody without anyone being injured thanks to the patience and quick thinking efforts of one officer.

Michael Moran was with his 10-year-old autistic son when he parked at the end of an alleyway next to the Turtle Creek Police station Sunday night. As Moran walked toward the front door of the police station along with his son, he fired at least six shots, but one of the officers working inside the police station that night came to the door and engaged in a conversation with Moran.

“He just said he no longer wanted to live. He said that he had really fouled up his life, he did some stupid things,” Turtle Creek Police Officer Michael Pruey said of Moran.

The unnamed officer persuaded the man to put down the gun and he was taken into custody without further incident.

“(The officer) used great restraint when that gentleman was at the door, not knowing if he still had that weapon, that he could have been a threat, putting himself in danger like that. I think he needs to be commended for what he did there,” Pruey said.

Moran was taken to the Allegheny County Jail where he faces numerous charges. The child was uninjured and returned to his mother.
