Cheesecake Factory apologizes after refusing service to armed officers

Cheesecake Factory

A group of corrections officers who planned to have a holiday lunch at a Tacoma Cheesecake Factory last week was met by management who asked them to leave, but the company says it was all just a big misunderstanding.

Officer Miriam Nichols said she had just sat down when two employees approached her coworkers who were about to be seated as well. The management informed them that, because they were armed, they needed to leave. Nichols said the employees were very nice and respectful. In fact, she said they continuously apologized but said it was company policy.

The group left, but Nichols reached out to The Cheesecake Factory to share her experience. The company promptly offered an apology and clarified that while no weapons are permitted in the business, the policy excludes law enforcement officials.

The company personally contacted the corrections department with an apology and Nichols concluded that she does believe it was just a misunderstanding.
