Dallas police receive over 700 calls about New Year’s Eve gunfire (VIDEO)

From 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., the Dallas Police Department received more than 700 calls about gunfire, presumably from those ringing in the new year.

The department previously warned via Twitter that what goes up, must come down.

Celebratory gunfire in the city is illegal, a class A misdemeanor punishable by a $4,000 fine and up to a year in jail. However, if a bullet from celebratory gunfire results in a person’s death, the shooter could be charged with manslaughter.

In addition to the calls about gunfire, nearly 300 calls also came in about fireworks and more than a dozen DUI arrests were made. It’s unclear if any arrests were made relating to fireworks or gunfire.
