Rep. Richard Hudson says Donald Trump could be ‘huge help’ for national reciprocity bill

U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson expects President-elect Donald Trump to put his money where his mouth is and help pass the national concealed carry reciprocity bill proposed in the U.S. House of Representatives last week.

Hudson, the North Carolina Republican who sponsored the bill, expressed his desire in an NRATV interview to work with Trump on overcoming any obstacles the bill may face in the coming months.

“We’ve got a president now who campaigned on this issue,” Hudson told NRATV host Grant Stinchfield. “Donald Trump’s committed to Second Amendment rights, particularly with concealed carry.”

Despite concerns about the bill passing in the Senate, Hudson remained optimistic about its chances.

“With 10 Democrat senators running for reelection in states that Donald Trump carried,” Hudson said, “I think the president can be a huge help in terms of getting this through the Senate and to his desk.”

The proposed bill, HR 38, would allow gun owners holding valid photo IDs and concealed handgun permits to carry in all states across the country. Supporting lawmakers hope the bill can untangle the confusing web of reciprocity laws that currently exist in the U.S.

“That’s why it’s so important we get this concealed carry reciprocity done,” Hudson said, “to protect law-abiding citizens who are trying to do the right thing.”
