Texas teen charged after killing bald eagle (VIDEO)

A 17-year-old boy is accused of killing a bald eagle with a high-powered pellet rifle in Harris County, Texas.

A man told deputies he heard a loud pop toward the back side of his property Tuesday, then looked outside to see three young men, one with a rifle, standing at the base of a tree where a bald eagle had nested for years.

After walking over to the tree, the man discovered the dead eagle on the ground and called the police.

At some point, before deputies arrived on the scene, the property owner said the three returned to where the eagle was and pulled a feather from its body.

During the investigation, 17-year-old Orlando David Delgado admitted to killing the bird with a pellet rifle. Delgado said he shot the eagle once and it didn’t die, so he shot it several more times until it was dead.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service declined to prosecute Delgado because of his age, but Game Warden H.R. Volschenk, with the Texas Parks and Wildlife, charged the teen with hunting without landowner’s consent, which is a class A misdemeanor.
