Two Georgia men were arrested last month in connection with the theft of several guns while working for a Marietta area freight company.

According to booking records with the Cobb County Sheriff, Kenneth Jay Corley, 58, of Marietta, and Samuel Washington, 52, of Austell, were booked on felony theft charges.

The Marietta Daily Journal reported the pair allegedly stole 45 Smith & Wesson firearms on March 13 and 14 from YRC Freight by filling up bags with forklifts and then driving the forklifts to the employee parking lot.

The theft was realized when a box listed to contain a firearm showed up empty in Alabama. Following up on surveillance video at the shipping location, police obtained a warrant for Washington’s home and discovered 10 of the stolen guns.

Washington was arrested on March 20 and released three days later on $55,220 bond. Besides the theft charges, he has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Corley, arrested March 22, was released the next day on $38,720 bond.

According to the docket of the Cobb County Magistrate Court, the cases of both men were transferred to Superior Court last Friday.
