Coffee shop donating portion of profit, tips to Independence officer shot in the head

Epic Coffee

For the entire month of April, ten percent of the profits as well as tips collected at a coffee shop in Independence, Missouri, will go to help an officer who was shot in the head last week while responding to a call about a residential burglary.

Officer Thomas Wagstaff, although showing remarkable signs of improvement, is still fighting for his life and has a long road to recovery ahead of him. And Epic Coffee hopes they can help to relieve at least some of the financial burden for Wagstaff and his family.

Epic Coffee, which is associated with Epic Church, chooses a new charity to donate to each month. Those who run the coffee shop said this month the choice was easy because the shooting just hit a little too close to home. They said the Independence Police Department helps to secure the church and protect the people inside; Now this is their chance to give back.

Since October 2015, the coffee shop has donated over $25,000 to local charities.
