Florida teen arrested on 17th birthday for fatal shooting (VIDEO)

A Florida teen got quite a surprise on his 17th birthday, but it wasn’t a good one.

Daeshawn Simmons turned 17 years old Friday, the same day he was arrested in Orlando for the shooting death of another teen outside of a club in March. Authorities charged Simmons with first-degree murder.

The shooting occurred at the Lux Ultra Lounge late last month and left 17-year-old Terron McCarty dead. Levar Ferguson, 18, was also arrested Friday and charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

Although details surrounding the case are somewhat scarce, authorities say the shooting started as an altercation inside the club, which at the time was hosting a “Spring Break Teen Bash” for 14- to 18-year-olds. The altercation then moved to the parking lot where gunfire erupted. McCarty was shot in the leg and the back of the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

Orlando police Chief John Mina said they had three extra officers working patrol the night of the shooting. Authorities also confirmed the club is no stranger to law enforcement. In fact, according to records obtained by WKMG, police have been called to the club over 200 times in the last two years.
