Springfield unveils new XDE pistol (VIDEO)

After teasing the public with blurry images for a week, Springfield Armory unveiled a new addition to the XD series of polymer duty pistols.

The Springfield XDE employs an all-new patent-pending, hammer-fired, single-stack, 9mm compact design, the company says.

The company touts the new XDE’s patent-pending hammer design grants a “low-effort-slide” that requires 27 percent less racking effort when compared to other leading semi-auto pistols.

“Thus, resulting in fewer slipped pulls, sore fingers and missed shots. The exposed hammer clearly shows gun mode, and the single/double action trigger offers options for shooting style,” the company says.

The XDE is equipped with an eight- and nine-round magazine, “point-and-shoot” ergonomics on an inch-wide frame, a “high-hand” beavertail and trigger guard design, a fiber-optic front sight, and the ever popular “grip zone” texturing that doesn’t let you forget it exists.

The XDE has a 3.3-inch barrel with a 1-in-10-inch twist, an overall length of 6.75 inches, is one-inch wide, and weighs 25 ounces. Retail price is $519.
