Hornady caves to popular demand, adds 6mm Creedmoor load

The Precision Hunter line under Hornady will gain a new addition in the form of a 6mm Creedmoor round, Hornady announced Wednesday.
The 103 grain ELD-X bullet delivers a muzzle velocity of 3,050 feet-per-second. Keeping with all the features the Precision Hunter line is known for, the 6mm variant offers a streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design and highly concentric AMP bullet jacket. The round’s Heat Shield, verified by Doppler radar, defies the effects of aerodynamic heating while retaining its shape over the entire trajectory.
The ELD-X bullet continually expands throughout its flight path, providing a high velocity impact from 0 to 400 yards. The thick shank of the jacket and high InterLock ring keep the core and jacket together, allowing for 50 to 60 percent weight retention. During low velocity impact, the Heat Shield tip drives backward, initiating expansion. This action produces a “substantial mushroom.”
Ideal for hunting deer, antelope and other medium-sized game, the ELD-X bullets operate best in 1-in-8-inch twist barrels. The bullets are also available as a component bullet for handloaders.
The new 6mm Creedmoor Precision Hunter ammunition with ELD-X bullets is available from stocking dealers and major retail sporting goods stores. A box of 20 will set shooters back $43.28.
